Our away trip to Porthmadog today was full of optimism on the way down but turned out to be a horror show on the road. This performance was so shocking that in comparison it would give 50 shades of grey a PG certificate. With a healthy travelling fan base this was totally unacceptable to witness as Porthmadog dominated this game from start to Finnish, only a superb display of goalkeeping from Ben Jones in the Flint goal kept this score line down from what wouldn't be far wrong in saying that it could have been 6 or 7 or even more. Our lack of commitment, desire, passion, basic knowledge of the game the list could be endless contributed to this rubbish that we all witnessed.
Porth started strongly and it was as late as the 23 rd minute that they had their first chance, Leon Newell beats the off side trap and hits the post 6 yards out. Porth continue to attack with a number of attacks but mounting to nothing but had a great chance on 39 minutes when from a Carl Owen miss kick Leon Newell hit a snap shot which is brilliantly saved by Jones in Flints goal. Flint have their only shot on target with virtually the last kick if the half, Craig Whitfield latching onto a good ball from Jack Ford but his shot from the edge of the box is comfortably saved by Gareth Barker in the Porth goal.
The second half is a massacre in terms of possession and attacks Porth had. 2 minutes in, a 16 yard drive from Leon Newell is brilliantly saved by Jones the resulting corner is not cleared and Rhys Roberts from 22 yards out pulls another great save from the most impressive Jones.58 minutes sees Jones brilliantly tip over a Carl Owen 12 yard shot. Porth deservedly take the lead on 65 minutes when on the edge of the Porth box Craig Whitfield looses the ball cheaply and Leon Newell picks up the ball, runs 75 yards unopposed and slots low from 12 yards out. Flint have their only other chance when a lively Jon Rush,on as a sub, heads narrowly wide from a Tom Smith cross. That was the last we see of Flint as Porth kept on the bombardment on the Flint back line. Porth made Jones pull out another great save on 77 minutes when Carl Owen strikes the ball from 12 yards out following a Ben Vanguci cross. Owen puts a header wide minutes later. Rob Evans was unlucky on 83 minutes with a long range low shot which went inches wide. Porth get their second a minute into stoppage time, the impressive Carl Owen side footing home from 6 yards out. Porth have the last chance of the game deep into stoppage time, Rob Evans shooting wide.
A dominant performance today from Porthmadog against a very poor Flint team and with league leaders Cefn Druids up next it doesn't inspire confidence unfortunatly.
