A very disappointing result today against bottom club Llanrhaeadr but with the chances we had this should have been a cruise.
Flint did start slowly and fell behind on 12 minutes when poor, poor defending allows Rob Fox to score all too easily. Flint are level a minute later as a great ball from Shaun Williams puts Stewart Carroll through on goal and he delivers a cheeky chip over keeper Connor Lee from the edge of the box. Flint do dominate possession and had numerous corners but the finishing left a lot to be desired. Just before half time a great cross in from the left from Jordan Beck was crying out for a touch but Marc Gunther failed to reach the ball as a goal looked a certainty.
The second half sees Flint on top in possession terms and Flint were denied a goal from a Stewart Carroll deflected free kick as keeper Lee pulled off a fantastic one handed save. Minutes later Marc Gunther sees his shot from close range blocked following a Lee Davey cross. 68 minutes sees Stewart Carroll offer a long range shot but didn’t trouble the keeper and a minute later Carroll should have done better from only 8 yards out but hit his shot tamely at the keeper. Lee Davey could only fire at the keeper on 72 minutes from the edge of the box.
Llanrhaeadr won the game on 80 minutes as a static Flint defence allows Matthew Jones to run 40 yards unopposed and coolly slots low past the advancing Ben Jones in the Flint Goal. Flint thought they had sneaked a draw in stoppage time as a Jordan Beck corner is met by Ieuan Hewitt but he hits the cross bar from only 3 yards out.
A poor result but for all the possession we had we really do have to be more decisive in front of goal.
