Our 9s played in a round robin at Salford Roosters, where Oldham St Annes joined both Roosters and Folly in what was a great event. There was lots of good rugby on show with the teams coming to terms with new rules and getting a ball back in their hands.
A short travel for the 10s this weekend to Langworthy Reds with it being the first derby of the season. The game was tightly fought out, with Langworthy manging to pinch the win. The 10s are back in action this weekend, where they entertain Halton Farnworth.
Scott Cahill’s 11s team played both Cadishead Rhinos and Leigh East over the last couple of weeks, following their introduction to Group B. The two games were good tests for the team playing against teams who were both in Group A last season. Following a 38-12 defeat to Cadishead the team put in a great performance at Leigh Easts, where the hosts won 20-16.
There was another game under the lights for our 15s at Sedgley Park, where they entertained Wigan St Judes with the 15s running out 50-20 winners. Lots of tries on the board for the home team who struggled in attack last season. The team has been free-scoring in pre-season scoring 84 points in 2 games, if that can be paired with last seasons dogged defence the team could have a really successful season ahead.
There was a second trip over the Pennines for our 16s who travelled to Kings Cross (Halifax). It was a real war of the roses and a bit of a spicy affair, but the 16s came out on top 20-14. The 16s get their season underway in Division 1 at home against Ashton Bears. It’s a tough start for the newly promoted team, but there’s enough quality in the team to start the season with a win.
This weeks fixtures will be published in the coming days.
