EIGHT IS GREAT FOR FORGESIDE !

Forgeside 'A' played their first home game against near neighbours Clydach Wasps on a damp september afternoon. The wasps fielded a very young and inexperienced team and it showed in the opening skirmishes as Forgeside totally overran their near neighbours. After good interplay it was captain Matthew Berba Cox who popped up for the opening goal, next on the scoresheet was ex-wasp Shaun Williams who rifled home from inside the box. The Defence of Lee Freeman, David Gulliford and Marcus Williams made sure goalkeeper Chris Spud Jones had an easy first half and were also calm in starting off a lot of the attacking play with some good passing from the back. Liam Gulliford was pulling the strings in the midfield with some strong tackling and crisp passing aided by Berba and they were allowing Liam Matthews to get forward and it was Matthews who broke the offside trap to beat the keeper for goal number 3 after only 15 minutes. Ryan Tidball scored number 4 after good interplay between impressive Jamie Parfitt and Shaun Williams including a sweet back-heeler. Joe Prince and Shaun Williams were getting forward at will and Joe was involved as Liam Matthews scored his 2nd of the day. Shaun had to go off the field to be replaced by new signing MacAuley Trinder whos first touches beat the keeper only to hit the post. Ryan Tidball scored his 6th of the season and Forgesides 6th of the game on the half hour with another cool finish from Jamie Parfitts assist (his 4th assist of the game). HT 6 - 0
The 2nd half kicked off and to Clydachs credit they really had a go of it and had a much better half and if this young team stick together they can definitely improve together. Liam Gulliford was still controlling the midfield and setting up some good counter attacks and spreading the ball wide to Macauley and Joe Prince who popped up to score goal number 7 when it looked like the chance had gone as he fell over but somehow chipped into the far corner. The 2nd half was a scrappier affair and Jordan Murray made his debut and veteran striker Jason Gulliford came on, Jordan was unlucky not to score and it was Jason who set up the last goal for man of the match Liam Matthews who then added his 3rd of the day to cap a very good team performance. FT: 8 - 0
Although there will be harder tests to come the Forgeside management will be happy with a clean sheet and the good passing and movement off the ball from the team which stands us in good stead for the upcoming games. Next up is Crickhowell at Llanelly Hill this thursday 14th september 6 pm
