Callington Town 2-1 Foxhole

Foxhole Veterans travelled to Callington Town and probably left the Ginsters Marshfield Park scratching their heads wondering how they didn’t come away with at least a point. Both sides traded chances in the early stages with Pete Jonas hitting the bar for the hosts and Gary Heale forcing a smart save from the home keeper.

On 25 minutes the visitors went ahead with new signing Ryan Morcom forcing the ball home after Martin Gilbert’s shot had been parried.

Gilbert’s well struck shot early in the second period struck the bar, but a few minutes later the home side were on terms when Paul Nesbitt took advantage of a defensive slip. Frank Snell was millimetres away from connecting to a cross at the back post to restore the visitors’ lead just before the hour mark. Then, with 14 minutes remaining, Town went ahead for the first time in the match scoring at the near post.

On 80 minutes Steve Best saw an effort come back off the post as the Foxes pushed for an equalizer. It looked like they had salvaged a point in the dying moments, but Gilbert’s well placed header was ruled out by a linesman’s flag. There was still time for Foxhole to once again hit the woodwork. Shaun Truscott’s long range effort somehow stayed out after it hit the inside of the post to ricochet across the goal.
