Saltash Borough 2-0 Foxhole

Foxhole Vets concluded their title winning season with a 2-0 defeat against Saltash Borough on their 3G home pitch at Saltmill.

Prior to the game, Borough performed a guard of honour for the Foxes who had already wrapped up the title following their 5-1 success last time out against Perranporth. And league secretary Mike Hinks was also in attendance to present the team with the Division 1 shield.

In an evenly contested first half, the Foxes were aggrieved they didn’t go into the break a goal to the good when Shaun Truscott had a goal chalked off for offside. Despite no flag from the linesman, and Truscott looking like he had run from an onside position, referee Allen Johns, who was not really in a position to make the decision, blew his whistle to controversially rule the effort out.

Foxhole failed to get any rhythm in the second period and it came as no surprise when the home side opened the scoring at the midpoint. The dangerous Stuart Fort diverting home a free kick with a flicked headed effort into the corner beyond the reach of visiting keeper Billy Holland. Moments later Christian Harling doubled the lead with a fabulous long range volley.

The visitors huffed and puffed in an attempt to get back in the game, but despite their efforts never really tested the home keeper and slipped to their first league defeat of what has been a successful season.
