Frampton Athletic Vets finally made their long awaited debut in the Bristol Casuals League and wasted no time in scoring their first goals!

New signing, James Shepherd, aka Sheps, was in fine forming claiming two perfect hat-tricks in his first outing in the red of Frampton Athletic. A few of his goals came from a direct assist from Frampton's legendary goalkeeper, Nick Talbot, who was in fine form with his through balls from the back and even had time to show off his silky skills with all of 4 keep-ups following a ropey back pass from Steve Bisp!

Another sharp shooter in the debut for Athletic was Ian Walters, who tried to claim 4 goals, but a count-back after the game saw him pegged down to 3! Further goals from debutants Tom Mullins (2), Ben Mills and Darren Collett, along with some familiar Frampton faces of Mike Beake and Steve Bisp, who curled in a delightfully deflected free kick into the top bin, added to Frampton's tally.

However, the most unlikely event of the game was a rare goal from Carl Tomlin! What looked like a stunning 30 yard looping striker in to the top corner leaving the 78cc goalkeeper stranded was later described as a "down the shin pad slice shot, which should've ballooned over the bar, but the flick off the toe saw it drop down over the keeper". That goal led to a touch of overconfidence from Tomo, who shortly after his goal tried an audacious flick-then-volley (similar to Dele Alli's wonder-strike at Crystal Palace last season!) from 40 yards out! Unsurprisingly, the eventual shot flew very wide of the post!

Despite the one-sided scoreline, 78cc did manage to get themselves on the score sheet mid-way through the second half. With the score already at 14-0, the 78cc midfielder/winger picked the ball up on the corner of the 18 yard box and struck a delightful rasping bullet of a strike, hard and low into the bottom corner of the net, giving Tibsy absolutely no chance to even get near it - it nearly broke the net such was the power by which the ball was hit!!!

A final highlight of the game, which also saw Ben Mills pick up the W*nker of the Week award, was Ben's attempted throw in! With 78cc being awarded the initial throw in, which was then deemed a foul throw by the ref, Ben took the responsibility for restarting the game, but his eventual throw in was a mix between Superman and Tom Daly, with both feet coming off the ground and Ben falling flat on his face! Clearly, this was always going to see him awarded with the WoW award for the day and Man of the Match, Sheps, wasted no time in awarding the accolade to Ben, describing it as "terrible foul throw", whilst also citing that Ben didn't join us for a drink afterwards - he probably didn't want to hear that throw in relived!!!
