In the first meeting between Frampton Athletic Veterans and Lyde Green Veterans, Frampton came out with all 3 points as they continue their first ever foray into veterans football!

The game was played at Beesmoor Road and with the pitch not in the best condition after a heavy winter period (and some pretty ropey line markings!), neither team was able to play the football that they would’ve liked on it! But it was a very even game for the most part.
However, Frampton broke the deadlock 30 minutes into the game, albeit it was Lyde Green who had the first clear shot on target just moments beforehand.

With Lyde Green attacking around the edge of the Frampton 18 yard box, the ball was rolled to the feet of one of the Lyde Green midfielders, who fired a bullet of a shot to the left of the Frampton goal, forcing an outrageous save to be made by Frampton goalkeeper, Nick Talbot. Frampton then launched a counter attack from the resulting corner and it was a goalkeeping howler that gave Frampton the lead, as he let a Mady Vaughan cross-come-shot through his fingers, allowing Sheps to fire in from a yard out!

Early in the second half, Mike Beake made it 2-0 to Frampton with a 20 yard rocket into the top corner of the goal! Great strike – although rumour has it he was trying to curl it into the opposite corner!

With Lyde Green now struggling to see a way back into the game, they brought on 3 young and fresh players who started to create a few more chances for the away side. Unfortunately, one of those chances was a dubious penalty decision (by dubious, I mean he dived like Dele Alli and mugged the referee right off!), which was given by the referee. But home goalkeeper, Nick Talbot, saved the resulting penalty with his legs to keep the score at 2-0!

Mike Beake was then given the chance to put the game to bed from 12 yards after Frampton were the team to be awarded a penalty after Mike Beake was clipped as he was breaking into the box! The away keeper saved the penalty, but the ball fell to the feet of Mady Vaughan from 6 yards out who only had to roll the ball into a seemingly open net, but he blazed the ball sky high, taking the same trajectory as the SpaceX rocket! NASA have been informed and on the lookout for the ball on their radar!

Lyde Green kept pressing and finally got their goal to make it 2-1 with just 10 minutes left on the clock. Normally that would set up a nervy end to the game for Frampton, but they kept their composure and finally put the game out of sight with Beake making up for his penalty miss and slotting the ball home to make it 3-1!

Marc Hughes then looked to make it 4-1 from 40 yards out, but after a wild swing from his tired legs, his resulting volley fired wide of the goal – so far wide that it went out for a throw in!

That result makes it 4 wins from 4 for Frampton Vets – not a bad start in their inaugural season - but they still have 7 games to fit in over the next 2 months!
