Frampton played a strong game of attacking rugby and were unlucky no to be able to increase their score even more as muddy conditions impacted on some excellent ball movement throughout the team.
This dominant position allowed the players to experiment with every aspect of the team strategy but their comfortable lead never seemed at risk, even when some of the more imaginative moves did not come off. Frampton recovered quickly into a strong defensive line and it was only an individual effort late in the game that allowed Dings to get onto the scoresheet.
It was particularly entertaining to watch Frampton put together multi-phase play, using rucks to control the pace and attack-channel on the field. Support was very good and in a physical game Frampton were clearly the harder tacklers.
The combined effect of the muddy conditions and Dings' inability to field an experienced front row (leading to uncontested scrums) did have an impact on the game, but Frampton dealt with this effectively as they took control. My thanks go to those players who agreed to spend a half playing for Dings in order to allow the game to be played at full strength.
It was difficult to pick an individual as man-of-the-match today, but special mention does go to Jake (Sideshow) Mortifee, who had a great game on the wing, and it was another powerful performance by Dan (Steady) Edmondson as hooker.
Well done - lets take it up a gear!
