It was a tale of two strong packs today as Fram welcomed Kingswood to Hoopers.
The game started well with both teams finding their feet. Alex, making his debut for the Green Army was being kept busy in the scrum. Alfie, Olley and Roy at hooker were supporting well but the deadlock was broken five minutes in when a scrum won by the visitors was worked wide for a try in the corner. A good tackle by Lewis soon after prevented a further score but Kingswood extended their lead following some good pressure and when the Kingswood player cut inside he found space to score despite Rohan’s strong tackle. Fram came fighting back though and a determined run by Mike saw them advance deep into the opposition half however when the ball fell loose the kick out by Kingswood was fumbled and the visitors were able to pick up and run over for the try. Fram pressured again and were unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet themselves with Nik being held up a meter from the Kingswood try line. When the ball was picked up though the breakaway down the line saw Kingswood add to their tally. An unfortunate incident shortly after when Kingswood were reduced to 14 following some foul and abusive language towards the referee. Fram pushed forward but when Kingswood broke again it was a mad chase and Lewis was on hand with the try saving tackle. Kingswood had the last word as the half ended when a good passing move created an overlap on the left had side for the score.
Kingswood added three more tries in the second half despite some spirited play by Frampton. It was certainly a case of tackling practice for the home side and they stood up to the test well, Luke came into the game well in the second half playing at flanker and Gabe and Jamie were always on hand when needed. Finn, playing at full back took a late knock and Matt and Jack both had some good runs but could not break through the Kingswood defence.
Some hard work put in by the home side and again some encouraging signs. Thank you to Barry for refereeing and for the supporting parents on the sidelines.
