With heavy rain the day before it was off to Hoopers for today’s game against a strong Kingswood pack. Fram had a couple of players out through injury and illness but that did not dampen spirits as kick off approached.
A great start from the home side saw good possession and runs by Jamie and Rudy pushed Fram forward. Khaled and Gabe were active in the pack but when the ball was fumbled Kingswood picked up and some missed tackles saw the opening score very much against the run of play. Fram’s heads didn’t drop though and following a penalty, Matt’s pass found Rohan who in turn passed to Charlie who found Nik and his determined run along the line brought the scores level. With their tales up Fram attacked again and the ever alert Matt ran on and his pass found Nik who unselfishly passed to Olley to burst clear and bravely dive across the line despite the attentions of three Kingswood defenders, the home side were ahead. The lead didn’t last long though and when the ball was lost in the middle of the pitch Kingswood picked up and the run along the line brought the scores level. Fram continued to attack with the impressive Jack involved at every turn for Frampton and with Mike in support there was always opportunities for the home team to snatch the lead again. As the half drew to an end some scrappy play resulted in the ball falling loose and Kingswood were quicker to react, despite the best efforts of Ben to stop the attacker the player burst clear and Kingswood were ahead 15-10.
The second half started just as frantic and when Matt picked up the ball from the kick off, his pass along the line eventually came to Jamie and his jinking run was enough for him to drive over and the scores were level. Despite some huffing and puffing from both sides there was no further scoring and the game ended even at 15 apiece.
A great effort by the boys today who showed great character and more importantly really seemed to enjoy their rugby today, contested by two evenly matched teams. A huge thank you to Steve for refereeing today and for the coaches and parents for their continued support.
