Brave Fram miss out in 13 try thriller

Following a run of hard games there was no let up for the boys in green as a trip across the city saw the game against Broad Plain.

The game started brightly for Fram and saw some good runs by Finn, Matt and Nik, each of which nearly broke through the home sides defence and with Rohan spreading the ball well Fram were very active going forward. However it was the home side that got the break through when following a scrum the ball was moved wide and a couple of broken tackles saw the home side take the lead. The scores were soon level though when Matt ripped the ball, his pass found the waiting Ben and as the ball continued to work its way wide it came to Nik who charged his way through for the score in the corner. With their tails up the visitors pushed forward again and when Nik picked up he again ran clear but was held up a metre from the line however his unselfish play and vision spotted the on running Lewis and the pass back sealed the try. Broad Plain fought back though and following another scrum the ball was worked wide again and the home player had space to score in the corner. After a period of scrappy play in midfield the ball was picked up by the home side and again worked wide resulting in another try and although Fram came back again a good move from the visitors was intercepted for another score just as the half came to an end. The score at half time being 20-10 which was rather flattering for all the hard work Fram had put in.

The coaches got to work at half time and Fram came out battling but an injury to Gabe saw him come off and sit out the remainder of the game. Not to be disheartened Fram continued to attack and some good runs by Mike, Olley and Rudy nearly saw them break the line. However when a scrum won by Fram was laid back to Lewis, his pass to Nik saw him power his way through for the try. Buoyed by the score and Gabe’s cheers from the sidelines the visitors pressed forward and when the ball was dropped in the middle of the pitch Jack was quickest to react and his pick up and go saw a brilliant try in the corner. Soon after a penalty to Fram saw Matt lay the ball off to Marcus, his pass found Nik and his lay off saw Jamie cross over and Fram had the lead. Another injury shortly after saw Lewis come off and again have to retire from the match. Within minutes Broad Plain drew level following some untidy play and in the final ten minutes as all the hard work and energy put in by the visitors began to take its toll the home side scored a further three tries to seal the win.

A great effort by Frampton today and an enjoyable game of rugby played in the true spirit of the game by both teams. As the boys shook hands at the end of the match thanks go to Steve for refereeing and for the parents and coaches for their great support.
