Frampton Cotterell 24 Broad Plain 47
There was not a cloud in the sky to welcome this morning’s visitors to Frampton Cotterell. Broad Plain who were recent victors in the Frampton Festival were hoping to repeat their win over their hosts less than a month ago.
It was either a case of too much chocolate or too late a night for the Frampton boys Trick or Treating as Broad Plain made the brighter start. Some changes for Fram with Lewis injured meant Leo was at scrum half. From the kick off Broad Plain pressurised the Frampton defence and following a scrum the strong Broad Plain pack pushed over for a try which following the conversion gave them an early 7-0 lead. This doubled later in the quarter following a further good move and passing down the line to cross over and score, again converted for a 14-0 lead. Fram came back though and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet themselves when some strong play and a good kick out by George and chase by Fram resulted in Jamie being held up just short of the Broad Plain line.
Frampton started the second quarter far better but it was Broad Plain who extended their lead following another well worked passing move with the conversion giving them a sound 21-0 lead. Fram then had their best period of the game with Ben and Nick waiting on the wing to pounce for any loose ball. However it was Broad Plain again who broke away to score, with the conversion unsuccessful the score was now 26-0. Fram came storming back though and some good tackling from Rory and Olley meant Fram kept the ball and it was Gabe who got Fram on the scoresheet. George converted to cut the deficit to 26-7. However straight from the kick off the ball was fumbled by Fram and was picked up by Broad Plain to end the half with another try and conversion to make the half time score 33-7.
Ned’s half time team talk obviously worked wonders as Fram started the third period well and following a powerful run by George and lay off to Gabe it was Finn who showed some quick feet and his darting run enabled him to cross the line to score with George converting to make the score 33-14. It was now end to end stuff in this exciting and open game and it was Broad Plain who got the next score to extend their lead to 40-14. However Fram came fighting back yet again and a good run by Mike and some good passing enabled Gabe to cross over again making the score at the end of the third quarter 40-19.
The final quarter was finally upon us and early Frampton pressure forced Broad Plain to concede a penalty deep in their own half. A well worked move with George tapping to Jamie and he powered over for the try, 40-24. However it was Broad Plain who ended the scoring with Fram fumbling the ball to hand Broad Plain the score and with the conversion it made the final score Frampton 24 Broad Plain 47.
A very tough but entertaining game played in great spirit and supported well by parents and coaches alike, well done boys, some encouraging improvements being shown.
