An enjoyable morning’s rugby at Broad Plain saw the home side come out on top in
this very even contest.
Broad Plain started the brightest and following competitive play by both teams it was
the home side that went over in the corner following a good passing move along the
line. They doubled their lead following the kick off, the ball falling loose and Broad
Plain picked up to push their way over to make it 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.
With Lewis unavailable, Callum switched to scrum half and with Nikolas and Leo
in the second row Frampton were still in the game. After a kick from Broad Plain,
George’s catch and great run led him well inside the Broad Plain half, Jamie carried
the ball forward and then with a neat pass back through his legs saw Matthew pick
up and run inside before a clever dummy gave him the space to run to the line for an
excellent score.
Shortly after Jamie ran over the Broad Plain try line but had put a foot in touch and
following the lineout Broad Plain ran clear to score again making it 15-5.
The third quarter saw no let up in commitment and a crunching tackle by George
on the Frampton try line saved a certain score. From the resulting lineout Broad
Plain moved the ball wide and despite some great tackling by Jack they forced the
ball over to score. Straight from the kick off however Fram chased the ball down
and Gabriel picked up and pushed his way over in typical style for a great score.
With their heads up, Fram were on a roll and nearly went over for another score
but George was pushed out of play right in the corner. The same player went over
shortly after but again had put a foot out, however this time from the lineout it was
Jamie that picked up the ball and after some impressive juggling went over to score
to narrow the gap to 20-15.
The fourth quarter started brightly and after a great interception from Nikolas, he ran
clear but was called back for a slight knock on resulting in a scrum down. Marcus
caught a great catch with a high spinning ball and some great tackling from Charlie
and Finn always meant it was going to be close. With Ollie covering the wing it was
nip and tuck however it was Broad Plain who made the breakthrough though with the
final score of the day with a good passing move. Fram played the final few minutes
with 11 men as Jamie went off injured.
A very big thank you to all who attended today and well done to the boys for a great
performance.
