A Day Of Charity

Freeland entertained Carterton A from the Witney and District Premier Division.
This Carterton side had already beaten two Senior league premier sides on the way to this point so the home side had to be wary of the opposition.
The game started very slowly and both sides struggled to impose themselves on the game.
Freeland needed to get the ball down and start playing through Adam Bowerman to get any joy going forward.
The Reds did manage to gain some momentum later in the half and it was Liam (I get booked every week without Fail) Harris with a very good finish from 15 yards.
Time for the home side to settle down and start playing the way they have for large chunks of this season.
No was the answer Carterton started to gain in confidence and the awayside were looking very dangerous going forward.
Then the Charity cup was taken literally by Richard Trigg (The normal cool as a cucumber defender) passing the ball to cartertons striker 8 yards out.
Only one outcome the away side level and there tails are well and truly up.
The next 5 or so mins were very uncomfortable for the Freeland management as the away side look to kill of the tie.
Only the carterton striker will know how he missed from 6 yards out. With the goal at his mercy the ball rolled under his foot to the relief of the Freeland faithful.
A second goal did come for the away side and you can’t say that they didn’t deserve it. A ball was played in from the left and after a fantastic save from Adam Lonsdale the ball fell at the feet of the striker to place it bottom corner.
A disastrous first half and the Yellows for the day looked totally shell shocked.
The half time team talk was left to Longford this week and after taking the disappointed dad approach this did finally get a reaction from his players.
They came out second half with a huge desire to turn the game around and so they should with it being such a massive game for the football club.
The word charity was evident again for Danny Taylors goal in the second half. It was not any more than a back pass really and that goalkeeper (Probably feeling sorry for Triggy dived around the ball) letting the ball roll into the bottom corner.
Freeland were no looking dangerous and with confidence levels raising were starting to press and cause the away side huge problems.
It was only a matter of time before the reds scored again. Our new signing Lionel (Phil Painting) Crossbar (Because he hits it every Week) Parker (Because that’s his surname) managed to find the net with a cross shot that went in off the ceiling (I mean crossbar) to put the home side in front.
It was what they had deserved after a much improved second half showing. There was still time for Danny Taylor to score his second and the home sides fourth. This coming with a smart turn and left foot finish.
So, to summarise very poor first half. Very good second half. Through to the final all that matters.
Now to get back to the bread and butter of league action. Massively important we gain 3 points this week.
See you at the weekend #ilovesaturdays
