Freeland Travelled to Easington Sports in the 2nd Round of the Senior Cup.
The Reds had given a great account of themselves in lasts years competition and were hoping to upset another high-flying Hellenic side.
The opening exchanges were very even and the pace and directness of Tom McCudden was causing the home side lots of problems.
Chances came and went for both sides in the first period. There was a massive blow to the away side when Richard I love a Cruyff turn in my own box went down awkwardly where the Easington’s centre forward.
The latter jumping to his feet straight away leaving Trigg on the Deck. Unfortunately, it was bad news for the defender and bad news for the club with Richard rupturing ankle ligaments and chipping a bone in his ankle.
We wish him a speedy recovery and we hope to see him back in action in the new year.
To make things worse the home side did take the lead on the stroke of half time with a well worked goal starting on the home sides left.
Still lots of positives to be taken from the first 45mins. The away side came out fully of energy and streaming forward trying to find the equaliser.
That they did very soon after, great work from Danny Taylor who found Tom McCudden 8 yards out and the striker made no mistake.
It was game on. End to end football with both sides going close. Tom McCudden having great 25-yard effort clawed away very soon after. Then the striker missed a chance it was easier to score. This was tough on the away side as straight away the home side found themselves able to put the game out of sight.
In the final few minutes Freeland did have another chance to equalise, but it was not to be.
Brave effort against a very good side. I love Saturdays and I did this one as well.
We move on Launton next week.
