Marston Away

Always a difficult place to Come.

Freeland travelled to Marston a ground that hasn’t been kind to them in previous years and in truth they have only won once since Matt Longford has been back at the Helm.
On a day when the senior fixture list was disrupted due to rain the Marston pitch was in great condition and it was going to be a tough test for the Redmen.
In the opening exchanges the away side were coming away with the ball more often that not and this was creating lots of pressure on a Marston side that just couldn’t get out of their final third.
Some great last ditch defending prevented a goal for Danny Taylor in the opening minutes.
Although the Reds didn’t have to wait long, and it was on form Tom McCudden that broke the deadlock with a crashing left foot drive from the edge of the box.
The nerves were settled, and the Reds were in total control. Only five minutes later and it was Tom McCuddens partner in crime that got in on the act with another decent finish, back to goal turning and finishing clinically low to the keepers left.
Chances were now coming and going, and the reds just couldn’t find that killer touch for a large part of the first half. That said in the final minutes before halftime Tom McCudden did manage to grab his second goal.
Another left foot finish giving the Marston keeper absolutely no chance.
Three nil up and cruising at halftime. It makes a change going into halftime knowing that if we just see the game out in a professional manner then the game will be won.
The second half started slowly, and the game only came to life on the hour mark. Tom McCudden scoring his hattrick with another great left foot finish. The striker was absolute dynamite and was looking like he was going to score every time he received the ball. (Maybe I should two foot him knee high in the changing rooms before every game and he would preform for us like this every week. Thanks to the Marston centre half for this)
Danny Taylor got on the score sheet again grabbing his second goal. Cutting in from the left and then unleashing a vicious right foot drive that gave the keeper no chance again.
We approached the final quarter of the game and Tom McCudden picked the ball up 25 yards from goal this time rather than taking the shot early he rode two challenges before sitting the goalkeeper down and finishing off the inside of the upright. His fourth and a great day for the striker.
Freeland’s strike force had come to the party today and hopefully with the confidence of the week they can carry this on to the coming games.
Then finally the away sides seventh goal and it was worth waiting for. The Magic man Conor Almond Scored a subline right footed freekick from fully 25 yards. The midfielder starting to get back to full fitness after a 16-month injury layoff after a horrible injury.
A Great way to finish a fantastic day for the reds and all at the club are delighted for Conor as every week he is looking better and better.
I love Saturdays. See you at the weekend Come on you Red men.
