Englandfans Boost Redevelopment Fund

Englandfans Boost Redevelopment Fund

Steve Pennock29 Apr 2013 - 19:51

England fans from all over the country came to Frickley Athletic on Sunday 28th April, in order to raise funds for Frickley’s £50k redevelopment fund.

The 16 players who played for the England fans side, regularly watch England home and away, but last Sunday they gave up their free time in order to help Frickley Athletic.

The game was arranged by Chad Thomas who is a life long Frickley fan and has also been watching England games for over 7 years now. Since the start of Frickley’s fund raising Chad has been carrying out collections at Frickley and England home games and also raised money in Moldova last September by running football cards on fans buses.

The idea of this Englandfans vs Frickley game came when he was discussing ways of raising money for Frickley’s redevelopment fund while he was watching England in Moldova. Then, with the permission of Frickley Manager Karl Rose, Chad called upon his Englandfans to play for their country - at Frickley.

Before the game a minute’s silence was observed for those involved in the terrible coach crash on the M62 on Friday, especially Bethany Jones who tragically died in the accident.

The game itself saw the Frickley XI side race into a 6-0 lead, with goals from Karl Rose, Jon Hood, Ethel Naylor, Mick Potato, James West and Neil Howden. But in the last 20mins the England fans side pulled 2 goals back from the pen spot, with Chad and Eddie Morrow, grabbing a goal each. This resulted in the Frickley select XI side winning 6-2.

In total, the game raised £530 towards the redevelopment fund. This was though player's fees, players and fans extra donations, and a raffle at the match.

The money raised at this event is a massive help for the club and Frickley Athletic would like to thank all the Englandfans players who gave up their free time and money in order to support the fund raising as well as thanking Chad for his efforts in arranging the game – not to mention his bucket collections!

The total money in the redevelopment fund now stands at over £24,000 which is almost at the half way mark of the total £50,000 we need to raise.
