It was a frustrating afternoon at the Wezzie on Saturday, as the Azzurri were unable to capitalise on a plethora of half & threequarter chances - particularly from Ben Algars excellently delivered corners. If anyone still does the pools, they must love us!!
Martin had to rejig once again, with Tyler & Ice Burgin suspended (Tyler is now available to play against Staveley) & Todd Jordan out injured due to the knock he picked up at Brighouse. Reiss Harrison made his debut & Big Dog Szanto was on the bench.
Frickley were straight on it with 2 chances for Jacob Hazel in the first 5 minutes. Further chances followed for the Blues but it was bottom side Gresley who took the lead when a speculative shot from Kane Lee flew in from 20 yards. The home side continued to apply the pressure with a couple of headers wide by Greg Young from corners.
On the half hour mark, Frickley keeper, Hugo Warhurst, acrobatically clawed away a Gresley drive to keep it at 1-0, and that was how it stayed going into half time.
After the break, it took less than a minute for Frickley’s Miracle Okafor to poke the ball past Aiden Jeynes in the Gresley net, only for a defender to clear before it could cross the line. Five minutes later he was at it again but Okafor could only fire straight at the keeper.Blues defender Sam Liversidge forced a decent stop with his rasping effort from distance after 55 minutes.
On 65 minutes, it was all square when the ball broke for Hazel who made no mistake crashing the ball home from the edge of the box. This was Hazes 93rd career goal for the club - some player!
Jeynes had to get down quickly, with a quarter of an hour to go, to keep out a Phil Watt header. It was all Frickley at this point, sub Lewis Szanto’s shot was deflected wide, Greg Young powered a header past the upright and Jameel Ible’s chance looped over the bar. However, the Moatmen cling on for their first point in nine games.
WEBMASTER MOTM - another game where everyone played well. Defensive unit were outstanding again - Hugo made 2 outstanding saves & Youngy, Jam & Killer Watt spent as much time in the opposition box as they did in their own. McGuire pulled the strings again in midfield & Haze & Miracle (especially) were dangerous all afternoon. But I'm giving the Glitterball to Sam Liversidge who was outstanding - well done Sam.
TWITTER POLL MOTM - Miracle Okafor was the clear winner, with Sam Liversidge, The Fire McGuire & Jammer also polling. Thank you to everyone who voted & well done Miracle
208 through the gate, thank you to everyone who supported the club.
Frickley Under 10s were the mascots for the game - they did a fantastic job, well done
