10 man Frimley take home the points

Frimley Green headed into this fixture off the back of a well earned 3 points last week away to Kensington, looking to continue their excellent form of 7 wins in 8 competitive fixtures. With a lot of games postponed due to weather, it was also an important game to try and bring home 3 points to keep within the group at the top end of the table who will have games in hand over to contend with.

Frimley were unchanged from last weekends lineup and new signing Sean Latimer who took his place on the bench alongside Cam Miller and Mark Primett.

The game kicked off slightly later than 3pm, the match official arriving late and the teams didn't walk out until about 3pm itself, which itself helped everyone to take their places and be ready for a very quick opening attack.
Within 36 seconds of the kickoff, Frimley were almost ahead, George Bowerman sending a half volley agonisingly close to the right corner, but into the side netting.

Frimley took control of the game and were rewarded with a fine well worked team goal, James Vass played a diagonal ball over to fellow fullback Zac Horkan who had advanced into a deep wide position, he chested the ball past the Deportivo left back, squared the ball across goal for Dan Bone to score at the far post. 1-0 Frimley

Deportivo tried to get back into the game, but left spaces at the back and Bone and Bowerman having chances to extend the lead.

Then the games first moment of controversy, Deportivo played a long clearance over the top, the official trying to get back as fast as he could, Tony Trinder also looking to catch up with an advanced Deportivo attacker, Trinder went for the ball, tangled with the attacker who went down, penalty awarded despite the official being a good 40 yards away and the contact being made outside the box, unfortunately even though the assistant saw this, he advised the wasn't allowed to get involved. A penalty wasn't enough for the official however, has he also gave Trinder a red card, the decision clearly questionable due to the recent rule changes, but it's safer for us to say, pen given, red card and a goal scored. 1-1

Frimley almost went into the half 2-1 up, Dan Bone crashing the bar with a freekick and Dearlove hitting over from the backpost from only 3 or 4 yards out.

HT 1-1 Down to 10 but still looking dangerous

Second half and Frimley continued to control the fixture, on the break Deportivo tried to attack but even with 10 men, Frimley remained solid, determined and worked together to try and get the 3 points.

Frimley thought they were 2-1 ahead when Sam Hamer ran past 3 players to get to a Bone through ball, however his goal was chalked off for offside to the bafflement of all watching.

Frimley then took the lead, Eddie McKinley had been putting in some superb corners all through the game, this time to the far post, Captain Jim Ward was in space to send a deep looping header into the far post, 2-1 and absolute scenes!

Deportivo, nearly equalised themselves, a lofted ball was excellently controlled, however the on rushing Frimley keeper Chris Harris thwarted the attack with an excellent stop.

Frimley went and made it 3-1, but again another chalked off for offside, Latimer coming on and finding himself running onto a great ball by Hamer, and sent a nice lobbed attempt into the net, but the flag went up again... still 2-1.

Deportivo threw everything at Frimley the last 8 minutes, however, this Frimley side refused to allow anything but a Frimley win and defended from the front.

Finally the full time whistle went, Frimley won 2-1.

Up until Saturday at least, Frimley currently sit top of the CCL Division 1, however we need to keep up this level of determination and we'll see how far we can into the new year. Up next we welcome Fleet Spurs to The Rec on Saturday 8th December, our visit their earlier in the season brought us our first loss in a 4-0 victory for Fleet Spurs, so we hope the lads are ready to change this result this time.
