On Wednesday 27th, Frome RFC opened its doors to host the Annual Frome RFC Clive Lewis Tag Festival, welcoming schools from the surrounding area for an afternoon of tag rugby.
Frome RFC School Liaison Officer Paul Lovatt commented "Thank you so much to everyone for making the afternoon's games such a terrific success. I very much value the continued support of all the schools which enables us to deliver a fun, positive, experience promoting rugby to the pupils. Frome Rugby Club are most grateful to Mr Dickens, who has supported the event for ten years, accompanied by six of his Frome Community College students, all who've recently become qualified rugby referees."
He continued "A special thanks must go to Andy Ong who spent his time refereeing all of the Year 5 & 6 games, eighty minutes of perpetual motion! Thank you very much Andy who has also supported us continuously for many years. Val Culff very efficiently dealt with the score cards & admin and also thank you to Sarah Walton for effectively providing cover as the Child welfare officer.
A strong Bitham Brook School provided three teams saw their year 5/6 just nudge through ahead of Selwood to take the title at this age group. Selwood giving a good account of themselves in a close run group with the biggest difference being only three scores in one game.
Both Upton Noble School teams played some entertaining rugby drawing with Bitham School and the other team only losing to Bitham by one try.
Berkley School were phenomenal supporting the event with three teams; Awesome for a small school their red team winning pool 1. St John's School won pool 2 with St Aldhelm's School looking very smart in their Castle Cary RFC shirts winning pool 3.
St Aldhelm's School fielded an all boys team proving strong against other opponents Berkley School red team drew with them as they also drew with St John's School, St Aldhelm's School winning the group.
