Frome RFC 2nd XV welcomed Cricklade RFC 1st XV to Gypsy Lane on Saturday.
The home side were keen to get out of the blocks early but the frantic pace led to some unforced errors and a few early chances went missing.
It took until the 18th minute for Frome to get a grip of the game and the first points of the day came when Winger John Spencer, who had a lot of work to do, was able to fend off one defender and outpace another to score under pressure. Ben Eley was on kicking duties but was unable to add the extras.
Frome were off the mark and added a second quickly with Outside Centre Ben Tiley capitalising on a gap in the defensive line and run through to dot down. Eley, this time adding the extras.
Frome allowed Cricklade to get into the game following some indiscipline. However, an outstanding counter attack saw Fullback Steve Morris feed Winger Kyle Williamson who showed his pace to sprint in from the half way line. Eley duly converted.
Cricklade responded with their best spell of the game and scored a well worked try moving the ball wide through there backline, the conversion being added. Frome responded well with Inside Centre James Gallop scooping up a pass out wide and made his to dive under the posts. Eley adding the conversion.
The Forwards were working tirelessly to build momentum and it was No.8 Steven Randall who scored next with a strong carry to the line, powering through the opposition to dive over, the kick from wide being missed.
The final try of the half saw Flanker Cameron Hastie power his way over from close range to dot down, the kick being missed.

Frome struggled to breakdown their opposition in the second half, this was mainly due to self inflicted mistakes. It took until the 60th minute for Gordon Grierson to score an excellent solo try, holding off a number of players to score from 30 meters out. Eley adding the kick.
Frome were began to play with much better structure, and with the visitors tiring Frome showed some excellent forwards and backs link up which eventually saw James Milton pick and dive for the line from the 5 meters out to score. Eley again adding the kick.
Soon afterwards Stuart Elliott added the next try by bundling over from close range near the posts, Eley kicking the conversion. The final try of the game saw Flay Half Eley cross the line himself when he was able to dummy & fool his opposite number to run it in from 10 meters out. He was unable to add the extras.

The Frome RFC 2nd XV have gone 18 games unbeaten and remain at the top of the table. Next opposition is away vs mid table Devizes RFC 2nds. With 4 games to go, Frome need to win a minimum of 2 to secure the league title.
