BT Premiership, 14 November 2015 - Hawick
By Duncan Scott
Work in progress / improvements evident / not quite there yet…
Wind dropped, and the rain mainly held off for the trip down the A7 to Mansfield Park.
Passionate full on encounter – typical border derby really!
Gala kicked off and kept Hawick in their half for 10 minutes, but the obdurate green defence which thwarted the Gala attack for most of the match prevented any score.
First foray into the Gala half sees a penalty to Hawick though, following a yellow card to Howarth for a perceived deliberate knock-on.
Few minutes later, Hawick make their way back into the Gala half and win another penalty. Hawick 10 A Weir successful again
The first blood sub of the afternoon with Emond on for Livingston
18 minutes in and first Hawick try from 7 S Graham, converted by A Weir
Quick thinking from our Graham, tap & go, feed E Dods, feed Emond and try at the posts converted by Howarth, game on
Or maybe not. Lineout, though better than recently not functioning 100%, possibly in the main due to a certain S MacLeod who has returned to his roots, and knows how to read and disrupt lineouts.
33 minutes played and another kickable penalty to Hawick, A Weir again
On the stroke of half time, Hawick break through the Gala defence again, but this time try disallowed for the double movement
Half time 16-7
Third quarter lots to forget from all involved
10 minutes in and Irvine on for E Dods (blood)
21 minutes and Hawick 2nd row Charters shown yellow for pulling down jumper in lineout
E Dods back on, with Adams coming off after another shift of giving his all
Into the final quarter and another Hawick try, this from Russell down the wing, converted by Weir
C Weir, A Dell subbed by Pate and Tod, plus Burrows off (blood again – rumours of our medical team running out of thread for stitches possibly exaggerated!) replaced by C Dods
34 minutes played and another bout of handbags, and referee Adamson decides to show yellow to Gala – Pate and Hawick – Weir
Gala still playing for pride, eventually rewarded with a Carryer try converted by C Dods just before the referee blew for full time
