As far as season openers go, GUFC were awarded a tough game away at Orwell, last season fourth placed team and one of the teams GUFC will have to fight with in the bid to achieve promotion this season. This game had it all, it really was one for the neutrals. Gamlingay took the lead through a fine take and finish by last years star man Jimmy Walker. The lead was doubled when GUFC veteran Ash Dean fired home a free-kick, his first goal since 2015. The home side grew back into the game scoring the third goal, however Jimmy’s second of the day ensured the two goal cushion was intact going into the break. GUFC were guilty of thinking it was game over as Jimmy Walker started the season on fire, completing his hat-trick after a sublime chipped pass from Coops. Orwell with nothing to lose struck back, 2-4 then 3-4, there was only one team in it now then they levelled to 4-4. With the scores even Orwell were looking to win it, they thought they had when they took the lead 5-4 with only minutes remaining. However on his return competitive debut, Coops struck home a delightful stoppage time free kick to rescue a point for the visitors. At one point it looked like three points dropped, in the end it was one gained.
