The Miners lost further ground on the top two as they were held to a goalless draw by Albion Sports.

After being re-arranged twice due to our opponent's fixture clashes and County Cup commitments, the match was played at Bradford (Park Avenue)’s Horsfall Stadium, which has gained an artificial surface since our last visit there 15 years ago.

Both sides had chances for the opener in the first half, with Town probably shading it, but sadly the finish was lacking. James Burgess saw his low shot saved at the near post by Albion ‘keeper George McMahon early on when he got clear of the defence. Albion’s Tabish Hussain then put a free kick in a dangerous position just wide. Charlie Marshall probably should’ve put us ahead when played through one on one with McMahon, but his shot was straight at him.

Toby Wells kept it 0-0 on 20 mins when he punched off the line Robbie Fox’s inswinging corner-kick, then down the other end Sam Barker almost picked out an unmarked Marshall, but his cross was just behind him.

As half time approached Burgess’ turn and shot on the edge of the box was straight at McMahon, then Fox fired over the bar after Wells punched clear a Dominic Staunton drive and the ball was played back into the box. In injury time Marshall found the net after getting away from his man and meeting Barker’s cross but was ruled offside.

Captain Dan Coupland almost opened the scoring just after the break with a powerful 20-yard effort after Burgess’ cross was half-cleared, but McMahon was there again to keep The Lions in the game. A chance for our hosts then saw Zak Khan hit well wide when picked out by former Town man Hass Gorji. Town huffed and puffed from then on against stubborn and organised opponents, with our final ball often lacking. Albion did enjoy chances of their own, but without testing Wells. Substitute Jahro Parchment shot wide from close range from a deflected left wing cross, then Gorji headed just over the bar from Charlie Flaherty’s free-kick. Reborn full-back Rinor Ejupi had a rare sight of goal with 12 minutes to go after good play by Coupland and Barker, but he too couldn’t get the better of McMahon. A trio of substitutions followed to try and influence proceedings, however Paul Marshall's side couldn’t find a way through. A point on the road it has to be said, but a frustrating afternoon nonetheless as we drew a blank for the second game in a row.

The Miners are back on home turf next Saturday when we host in-form Hallam (kick-off 3pm).
