Owls swoop in to nick a late win.

In a slow start to the game a corner won by Danny Harris on 9 mins led to George Kidd glancing a header just wide.

The first big chance fell to Cleethorpes captain Luke Mascall on 17 mins who's powerful strike was tipped over by Tom Osborne. Jordan Outerbridge tried his luck from 25 yards shortly after but his effort was over the bar. Brody Robertson came close for the visitors on 22 mins when picked out by Danny Trott at the far post but shot against the side netting.

Town are looking like a much more solid outfit than a couple of weeks ago with Kidd and Luke McCrum combining well at the back and both Harris and Outerbridge looking lively down the flanks. The visitors were giving us little space at the back though with Robertson the danger man going forward.

Cleethorpes goalkeeper Miles Fenty spared Lawrence Heward's blushes shortly before the break after the defender's clearance went straight to the feet of Harris who raced clear but the keeper rushed out his goal to deny him. With the defence scrambling back the loose ball fell to Curtly Martin-Wyatt who's shot Fenty easily gathered.

Two mins into the second half Robertson's low effort from an acute angle was saved by Osborne and the striker had the ball in the net seconds later when he received the ball at close range from Matt Bloomer but the linesman's flag was raised for offside. At this point The Miners were struggling to keep possession but the introduction of Mark Simpson boosted the attack. On 56 mins Martin-Wyatt looked to have got clear but a defender managed to get back and deny him. At the other end Kieran Wressell and Robertson both went close with headers around the hour mark.

The opening goal increasingly looked like the one to win it, could a moment of magic seal an unlikely double over the promotion chasers? A glorious chance to do exactly that came on 68 mins, but sadly couldn't be taken. Excellent work from Simpson and Lund put through Martin-Wyatt who could only blaze over the bar when well placed. A Tim Robertson free kick on 71 mins later saw McCrum head narrowly wide and down the other end moments later Brody Robertson (hope you're keeping up!) squandered his own guilt-edged chance, hooking over the bar from sub Peter Winns' deep cross.

The Lincolnshire side were reduced to 10 men on 75 mins when Trott went studs-in on Outerbridge, and in the resulting handbags referee Luke Watson reached straight for his red card. The third sending off for Cleethorpes in as many meetings between the two sides, although in fairness none of the games particularly bad-tempered.

Sadly for Town there was little time to make use of the numerical advantage. Alex Flett's free kick into the box two mins later wasn't dealt with, allowing Robertson to slam the ball past Osborne and into the net. Such are the fine margins between victory and defeat, the visitors capitalising on our only defensive mistake of the game.

With a man down Marcus Newell's side seemed happy to see out the 1-0 win and few chances followed for either side, although Osborne had to be alert to deny Robertson grabbing his second only two minutes later.

Simpson looks to be on the road to being back at his best after seeing little action at Ossett Town and his run forward a minute before time supplied Martin-Wyatt but good defending stopped him getting a shot away.

The visitors probably shaded the afternoon in terms of quality, but this was a battling and determined showing by Adie Costello's side certainly worthy of a point. Despite another defeat the ship looks to have steadied, now we just need the win.
