A superb hattrick from Adam Turner plus a goal from Mark Simpson powered the Miners to a 4-1 win over a spirited Armthorpe.
It was our visitors who enjoyed the early chances, a goalmouth scramble from Bradley Johnson's corner on five mins eventually saw the ball cleared by Simon Poole, before Marcin Wolski's free kick was floated in to Liam Radford who's header was held by Paul Hagreen. Garforth's first chance came on 8 mins when Jack McMurrough shot narrowly wide after being set up by Mark Simpson. Further chances for Welfare's Radford followed around the 15 min mark; a 25-yard effort just wide of the upright and then a shot just clearing the bar after he combined with Tom McLaughlin on the edge of the box.
On 21 mins though Town seized on a defensive error to give themselves the lead. A ball into the box was headed out by Josh Gibbons straight to Adam Turner who superbly rifled the ball into the top corner for his first senior club goal.
It was a goal that Rob Hunter's men never looked back from in a clinical and assured display. Radford and McLaughlin combined again for the visitors on 32 mins for the latter to shoot straight at Hagreen, but ten mins later Town doubled their lead. A mazy run into the box by Simpson saw him find Turner who coolly stroked the ball into the bottom corner for his second.
To their credit the Doncaster side never gave up, and will have cursed their luck just before the break when Hagreen made a brilliant save to deny Darren Mansaram's header. Our keeper nearly went from hero to villain seconds later however when he almost fumbled Johnson's corner into the net, but managed to recover.
There was no let-up for the visitors though when two quick-fire goals at the start of the second half completed the win. On 48 mins Simpson joined in on the scoring to continue his own purple patch; Hamilton played the striker through the middle to round stranded keeper Adam Stevens and finish into the empty net. Two minutes later it was four courtesy of a brilliant team goal. A sweeping move ended in Turner getting ahead of his man to fire low past Stevens and complete his hattrick. Quite a week for the centre-forward after scoring a brace for the U21s on Thursday and vindication for manager Rob Hunter who selected him ahead of regular starter Lee Turner.
Our visitors continued to find a way back into the game but couldn't match Town's finishing; Mansaram firing over the bar when played in by Chris Gowen on 51 mins. Another chance came to McMurrough after Simpson found his way past Stevens on the byeline, but blazed over the bar. There was almost a fourth for Turner on 77 mins when rounding Stevens but his shot found the side netting. The Armthorpe stopper almost did a carbon copy of his opposite number's earlier near-error on 77 mins from sub Jamie Allsop's cross-cum-shot, but managed to recover the ball to prevent a fifth.
Veteran ex-Garforth midfielder Mick Jones popped up on 84 mins to reduce the arrears; meeting Jack Waldron's free-kick with a glancing header into the top corner. His goal was received with applause from Garforth supporters, showing his contribution to our survival last season hasn't been forgotten. His current teammate Stevens produced two excellent saves around the 85 min-mark to keep the score down - turning round the post Mitch Hamilton's low shot and then keeping out a Ryan Donague effort with a flying save. There was more work for him in injury time when he tipped over the bar Lee Turner's drive after the substitute beat his man on the left.
A fourth straight victory for The Miners, who's form in the last six games is superior to two of the division's top five teams. A big test next week when we visit one of the others, 2nd place Pickering Town (kick-off 3pm).
