Goals from Mark Simpson, Devonte Morton and Niah Payne sealed an excellent 3-0 win over 6th place Penistone.

It was a turnup for the books for Town, who were fortunate to be level at the break after the visitors missed a number of chances, but they came out on top later with some quality finishing to take the points.

Before the game, captain James Beaston was presented with a trophy to mark his 100th appearance for the club.

Devonte Morton came up with the first chance of the game on 3 mins when hitting the side netting after being played through by Billy Lumsden. Penistone's first sight of goal arrived five minutes later when Andy Ring could only sky over the bar Jordan Coduri's delivery into the six-yard box.

Garforth were forced into a change 25 minutes in when Joe Colley was injured in a challenge and was replaced by Albert Ibrahimi. There were strong appeals for a Town penalty six minutes later when Mark Simpson looked to have been brought down in the box by visiting keeper Chris Snaith, but referee Joe Goodwin was having none of it and play continued. With Garforth attacks breaking down in the final third, our opponents finished the half well on top and will wonder how they didn't put themselves out of sight. On 35 mins Nathan Keightley got clear just inside the area, but could only shoot wide of the far post. Moments later there were Penistone appeals for a spot kick. A stranded Toby Wells saw his clearance of a long ball rebound to Ring who made his way into the box but rather than shoot, opted to go down under minimal contact from Beaston. Once again, Mr Goodwin waved play on. Not for the first time this season, Wells kept the Miners in the game as the visitors earned a succession of corners on the stroke of half time; keeping out a towering header from Tom Brennan, before denying a header from Brett Lovell.

Penistone started the second half as they ended the first, Kieran Ryan firing well wide on 47 mins when a deflected cross found him just inside the area.

From then on the game opened out and Rob Hunter's side finally started to cause the visitors problems. Great work by Morton down the left on 61 mins brought a Shaquille Clarke-Adams chance, but his strike from ten yards out was over the fence. It had been a quiet afternoon thus far for returnee Simpson, but he only needed one chance to "mark" his fourth 'debut' with a goal. On 63 mins, Alex Low's 20 yard header sent the striker racing clear of the defence to coolly lob Snaith and put The Miners ahead.

On 65 mins there was another chance for Ring down the other end when he was picked out by Ash Ellis, but his header was wide. Some good play between Ring and Keightley shortly after saw the latter's strike blocked by centre-back for the day James Beaston.

Simpson twice almost turned provider around the 75 min-mark, picking out Clarke-Adams on the right, who fired a 25 yarder into the arms of Snaith, before doing well in the corner to supply Morton who volleyed into the side netting. On 89 mins, Town surely made the points safe when Ibrahimi put through Morton to outfox Brennan and finish well into the bottom corner. And there was still time for a third goal in almost the last kick of the game. Lively sub Helmo Silva's defence-splitting pass found Niah Payne on the right who beat his man and unleash an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

A win which takes us up to ninth in the table and a much welcome clean sheet, with centre-back pairing of Beaston and Low solid throughout. Next up for The Miners is a visit to Thackley on Saturday 29th September (kick-off 3pm).
