History was made on Wednesday Evening in the Northamptonshire Last Woman Stands League Plate Final between Geddington Ladies and Thrapston Yellows Ladies at Burton Latimer Cricket Club.
Poppy Gibson scored an unbeaten century for Geddington Ladies in their 128-7 off their 20 overs, Gibson top-scored with 101 not out off 65 balls in an innings which included 13 fours and 1 six and the strike-rate of 155, a brilliant knock to score her first century in her cricket career. Ciara Bettles (5-19) was the pick of the Thrapston Yellows bowlers with five wickets, there was also two wickets for Rachel Durman (2-23).
In reply, Thrapston Yellows reached their victory target of 129 in the 17th over for the loss of 1 wicket, Kate Thorncroft (50 Retired Not Out off 26 balls) top-scored with a half-century, Annie Thurbon (32*) and Jackie Ackroyd (31*) were also in the runs with the bat. Vikki Smith took the only wicket to fall with the ball for Geddington.
But a massive well done to all the Geddington Ladies and to all the backroom staff for a brilliant first season, finishing 5th in the Northamptonshire Last Woman Stands League and Runners-Up in the League Plate Final, you can all be proud of yourselves and hopefully more to come from the Ladies in 2019.
