Rainworth MWFC 2 - 0 Gedling MWFC

The hosts started well and had a chance to score inside 30 seconds. After some nice play down the right a dangerous cross was headed wide by Curtis Williamson from 8 yards out.
just 3 minutes later Gedling should have broken the deadlock, Kuwsi Ofushine drove through the heart of the Rainworth midfield and played in Tyrell Shannon-Lewis who rounded the keeper but he recovered and tipped Shannon-Lewis' effort against the post. From the resulting corner Adrain Hawes header was saved by the keeper from 6 yards out.
The game became scrappy and on 28 minutes the hosts grabbed the lead. After a long ball was misjudged by Paolo Piliero Niall Slack nipped the ball off the full back and slotted past Louis Richardson from 10 yards out.
Gedling almost levelled immediately. After Jahren Barrow whipped in a cross which found Ruben Wiggins-Thomas at the back post he beat his man but his effort hit the post from 6 yards out and the hosts led going into half time.
The first chance of the second half fell to the visitors as Kieran Harrison lined up a free kick from 20 yards out and he drilled his effort low and hard but the hosts’ keeper did well to smother Harrison’s effort.
Just 7 minutes later however Rainworth doubled their advantage, a cross from the left found the feet of Slack who scuffed his first effort but his second effort found the top left corner leaving Richardson no chance in the Gedling goal.
Just a minute later Gedling were given a lifeline. Courtney Hastings was fouled in the box and the ref pointed to the spot, Shannon-Lewis stepped up but his effort was tame and the keeper tipped his effort away to safety and that was as good as it got for the visitors who fell to defeat on the road for the first time since 6th August.
