Gedling MWFC 1 - 1 Kimberley MWFC ( 4-1 PEN)

Gedling were looking for a first win this month and started brightly against Kimberley who sit in 7th in the division above. Just 2 minutes in Jack Jepson had a golden chance to open the scoring after he broke past the Kimberley backline his effort from 8 yards was saved by the visitor's keeper. However, on 9 minutes Gedling had the goal which their start had merited, Sol Miller sent a long throw into the box which Kimberley could not clear and the ball fell to Adrian Hawes who smashed an effort into the roof of the net from 10 yards.
Just 2 minutes later the miners could have doubled their advantage, after some neat build up play in the midfield Tyrell Shannon-Lewis raced into the penalty area but his effort from the right of the area was saved by the leg of the Kimberley keeper.
Kimberley who were UCL Division 1 champions last year had to wait 32 minutes for their first attempt on goal, Aaron Coyle latched onto a poor clearance and his half volley was brilliantly tipped around the left-hand post by Louis Richardson.
The visitors raced out of blocks and had 2 golden chances to equalize, firstly a corner fell perfectly to substitute James Shaw who hit an effort from 6 yards that was superbly blocked by Paolo Piliero. Then just 2 minutes later a cross deflected off Miller and Richardson did well to tip the ball over the crossbar. However, on 67 minutes Kimberley were level. Piliero played a short back pass to Richardson who tackled Kai Moore but the ball fell to Shaw who had the simple task of poking the ball in from 2 yards.
The visitors continued to mount pressure on the Gedling backline who were resolute all night and Richardson was on the top of his game as on 73 minutes Moore hit a fierce shot from the edge of the box which Richardson did well to hold onto.
On 82 minutes the hosts nearly took the lead in spectacular fashion. Jahren Barrow drove from the half way line and hit a strike from 35 yards that flew just over the crossbar. In added time Richardson kept the miners in the game by saving brilliantly from a header from a corner and with that the referee blew his whistle and it went to penalties.
Richardson did brilliantly to save Kimberley’s first 2 efforts and with Josh Thornton, Jamie Lloyd and Paolo Piliero all scoring Gedling were 3-0 up Kimberly did eventually find a way past Richardson but Jack Jeposn scored and Gedling won 4-1 in the shootout to progress to the next round of the Notts Senior Cup.
