Miners lose out to the Shiners....

South Normanton FC……4 (Whitt 43,88 Crosby 51 Fay 65)
Gedling Miners…………...1 (T.Mushambi 90)

It was certainly a fame of two halves at the MJ Robinson arena. For the first period Gedling gave their all and more than matched their Derbyshire opponents. Early chances went a’begging for the visitors but both Mitch Slawson and Jack Hopper failed to get past Steve Smith in the home goal. At the other end ex-Miner Ash Whitt was denied by a desperate last minute goal line clearance from Harry Simpson.

It was end to end stuff as both sides tried to get their noses in front and again Whitt went close for his side and Simpson had a decent free kick attempt saved by Smith, tipping a fine effort over the bar. Slawson had another fine effort saved by the home custodian, but it was the home side who drew first blood. Two minutes before the break Dan Riley outpaced the visiting defence and got to by-line before crossing for a Whitt tap in. The Miners were a shade unfortunate to be behind going into the break.

The second half was a completely different kettle of fish altogether. Six minutes in and the lead was doubled. Luke Crosby pounced on a bad defensive clearance and his shot looped up over a host of defenders and Max Danby into the top corner.

Whitt almost added to his tally with a one on one with Danby but the keepers legs came to his rescue. Jack Hopper tried in vain to drag his side back in to the game and again Slawson tested Smith but it was all one-way traffic now and no surprise when the Shiners went further ahead. A direct free kick from Ant Fay out on the left whizzed past Danby into the goal. Two minutes from time Whitt sewed up the points with a run and shot beneath Danby to put the matter beyond.

In stoppage time the Miners got their consolation. Young Mushambi scored from close range after a neat build up and slick pass from Alex Clarson. 4-1 the final score was a tad harsh on the visitors but the home side played to their strengths with a fine display of passing football.

Their defence coped with everything that Gedling threw at them led by Danny Roberts, another ex-Miner, arguably the best centre half in the division.
