Gedling MWFC 2 - 0 Blidworth Welfare

Gedling comfortably dispatch Blidworth on Tuesday night.

The hosts came into this game after a loss on penalties against step 5 Belper Utd on Saturday and started strongly with the first chance falling to center back Adrian Hawes who rose above his marker from a Josh Thornton corner but Hawes ’effort was tipped over the bar.
Hawes had another chance just 5 minutes later after he headed a Kieran Harrison free kick just wide of the left-hand post. But on 13 minutes Gedling deservedly took the lead, after a in swinging corner Tyrell Shannon-Lewis' powerful header beat the keeper to give the hosts a 1-0 lead and Shannon-Lewis his first goal for the club. Gedling really began to take control of the game restricting the UCL newcomers to long balls and half chances and on 31 minutes they doubled their lead with a great buildup of play. After Dean Gent’s header from a long ball debutant Jamie Lloyd beat his man and played a perfect pass to Ruben Wiggins-Thomas who burst past his man and slotted the ball under the onrushing keeper from 12 yards for his first goal of the season.
Blidworth started the second half brightly and after 49 minutes they should have pulled one back, after some nice football down the left the ball fell to Ben Sandhu who headed over from 4 yards out with the goal at his mercy.
This let off brought Gedling to life as they looked to put the game out of sight, on 53 minutes Paolo Piliero whipped in a cross that Courtney Hastings hit with a crisp volley from 18 yards but it hit the top of the crossbar and away to safety. Just 3 minutes later Shannon-Lewis had a glorious chance after Gent played a pinpoint pass which Shannon-Lewis controlled brilliantly but he hit his effort straight at the keeper and the score remained 2-0. Gedling really showed their experience in managing the game and it extended the unbeaten run in the league to 6 and propelled the miners into the top half of the league.
