Lacklustre Gedling beaten by Holwell on Saturday.
The Miners came into this game having not lost in the league since late August but started poorly against a Holwell side who were in the bottom 3 and on 13 minutes the visitors took the lead, after some nice football split the Gedling midfield Thomas Harris was allowed to drive into the box and smash his effort into the bottom left corner.
Gedling’s only meaningful effort of the first 45 was created on the 17-minute mark, Paolo Piliero whipped in a great cross which found Courtney Hastings who headed over from 8 yards out.
After 28 minutes Holwell had a chance to double their advantage after some pinball in the Gedling penalty area the ball was headed over by Harry Allcock but the visitors headed into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
Things didn’t really change for Gedling and on 65 minutes the green and golds doubled their advantage, after a long ball found Tom Pope his first effort was well blocked by Adrian Hawes but Pope hit his second effort into the top right corner from 8 yards leaving Louis Richardson no chance.
However, 5 minutes later Gedling were back in the game, Danny Dixon played a great ball which found Jack Jepson who beat his man and he drove into the box and slotted his effort into the bottom right-hand corner to give the miners a lifeline.
On 78 minutes Paolo Piliero almost scored a screamer after the ball bounced up for him Piliero hit a volley from 30 yards that sailed just over the crossbar. With the game nearing its conclusion the hosts day got worse, Josh Thornton was sent off for a rash reaction on Allcock and the miners ended the game with 10 men and saw their league unbeaten run end.
