Miners post first win since November
The Plains Road faithful were treated to some fine football on a bitterly cold day as the Yellow and Blues registered their first win since November…and thoroughly deserved it was too !
The diehard supporters had hardly took their seats as debut striker James Needham picked up a pass from Jordan Whitehead and planted a perfect cross shot into Liam Powers goal. The match day Secretary timed the goal at 21 seconds !
Both teams were moving forward with pace, but real clear cut chances came and went until the 21st minute. A speculative shot from distance was whizzed towards the box and Stephen Akers back heeled the ball to wrong foot Scott Miles in the home goal for the equaliser. Shortly afterwards Whitehead saw his free kick just miss the far post.
The second period lived up to the first as Gedling mounted attack after attack and Kelvin Mushambi went close on a couple of occasions. In the 62nd minute a jinking run by Rackeem Reid was crudely halted by a defender just inside the box and Mr Scarisbrook had no hesitation in awarding the spot kick. Mushambi senior stepped up and blasted the ball high and wide. A huge let off for Sports.
After Liam Moran went close twice, once hitting the post, the home team edged in front. A right wing corner found the head of Steven Brett who returned the ball into the danger zone. Skipper Anthony Brown, already up for the corner, was on hand at the far post to score the go-ahead goal
A flurry of away substitutions and a few scares only the way in the last quarter of an hour, but Gedling held on for a well deserved and welcome win.
It was a welcome fine team performance and very well earned.
