Miners are hit for six !

GEDLING MW..............0
BLACKWELL MW....... 6
(Saxby 1, Campbell 8, Bacon 17 and 44, O’Donnell 41, Spiers 89 pen)

Woefully short on defensive cover Manager Andy Muldoon was forced into moving Lewis Capewell into the back line to partner skipper George Bradley and gave a home debut to Liam Corrigan at right back. Luke Stanley continued in midfield and Rhys Jeffery returned after injury.

The home crowd were stunned after just 43 seconds. An Adam Campbell cross from the left deceived everybody in the Miners penalty area and a gleeful Ricki Saxby, loitering at the far post, shot home across Carl Najuk. Worse was to come 7 minutes later when Campbell himself got on the score sheet and on 17 Ben Bacon was put in by Danny O’Donnell and after outpacing the central defence coolly slotted past Najuk.

Gedling’s only response in the first half hour was a tame shot from Gareth Ellis, but Stanley was doing his best to get the midfield going and his fine pass almost put in Keiran Wells whose effort was deflected for a corner. Corrigan tried his luck but saw David Leak clear off the line. At the other end George Bradley made a last gasp tackle to deny Jim Spiers.

Rhys Jeffery then went on customary mazy run to put in Ben Griffiths for a half chance, but soon after Blackwell made it four without reply as O’Donnell floated in a cross cum shot that went in off the bar after Gedling’s defence lost the ball unnecessarily lost possession. A minute before half time and the fifth courtesy of Bacon again.

0-5 at the interval and not a lot from the home team as Blackwell stroked the ball about with abandon and fully deserved the lead, even though the scoreline was flattering.

The second half showed some improvement from the home side, but Lewis Capewell had to be alert as he cleared a goalbound effort from Bacon off the line. Gedlings attack often fizzled out in the last third, but the Miners midfielders were doing their best to get some form of grip on the contest.

They were certainly showing more commitment and pride and they were persistently trying to keep the visiting forwards at bay and as try as hard as they could Blackwell could not add to the scoreline until the last minute.

Keeper Najuk tried a suicidal pass out to his full back and the ball was intercepted. Najuk bought down the player and the customary yellow card and resultant penalty was given and Spiers made no mistake from the spot to record his team’s biggest win for over three years.

A better second half from the home team, but as much as they huffed and puffed, they could not break down Blackwell.
