Yet another score draw with plenty of goals from a winning position....

GEDLING MW.........3 (Jeffery 22 Wells 24 Ellis 44)
BLABY....................3 (Gunn 14 and 36, Blanchard 74)

Yet another 6 goal stalemate

Incredible stats from the Miners as they posted their third 3-3 scoreline in the past 11 days. True to form they couldn’t hold onto a lead as Blaby fought their way back into the contest. Coincidentally, and more worryingly, in all three the Yellow and Blues have surrended winning positions in games.

As has become the norm in recent games, both teams attacked from the off with chances at both ends within the first 10-12 minutes. Home winger Gareth Ellis tested the visitors defence with a strong run and cross and big forward Clinton Gunn, at the other end, tried his luck with a volley that just missed after a dangerous free kick from Adam Hart. The visitors fine forward play brought dividends in the 14 minute. A misplaced pass in midfield let in Gunn who rounded Watkinson for the opening goal. Gunn was proving to be a nuisance up top for Blaby and he again went close half an hour in.

The Miners equaliser came midway through the half. A defence splitting pass from midfield by Danny Pass found winger Rhys Jeffery on a run who rounded the centre back, drew the keeper off his line and passed the ball into the far corner with consummate ease. Two minutes later and the home team were in front. This time Jeffery was the provider with a low hard cross from the right which top scorer Kieran Wells smashed into the net from barely a yard.

At the other end Gunns strike partner Toby Warner fired just wide and Gunn again saw a decent header well gathered in by Watkinson. Blaby’s second goal arrived on 36. A free kick from Tom Hodgson found the head of Gunn who rose highest unchallenged to head home off the post. Approaching half time and again Watkinson thwarted Gunn before the third from Gedling. Junior Harding moved the ball forward towards the edge of the box. It looked all day a defenders ball to clear, but both Hodgson and skipper Howarth got in each other’s way and allowed Ellis to harass the pair of them and steal the ball. In a flash his left foot did the rest to fire home past Luke Hall from 6 yards.

In the second half Gunn continued where he left off and after a mix up in the home back line allowed a free goal bound header which Watkinson did well to keep out and then Jordan Wagflin went close with a direct free kick. Minutes later Hart thundered the bar from a corner as the Miners goal came under siege.

Gedling responded well with efforts from Ellis and Wells again, but the attacks were becoming more and more sporadic as Blaby powered on to reduce the deficit. After Wells had his header saved and Tom Orton missed for the visitors, Blaby drew level. A fine crossfield ball found Adam Blanchard moving forward to support his attack. Not being closed down, he decided to try his luck from some 26 yards and his low shot deceived the defence and crept in at Watkinson’s far post.

Both sides could have nicked all three points in the last 10 with Wells again proving the danger man for the Miners and Gunn continuing to torment the home defence. Skipper could have sealed a dramatic injury time winner for his team but his free kick from 20 yards was pushed round the post by Hall.

All in all a lack lustre performance from Gedling, albeit sprinkled with competent individual performances. The team need to learn to act as a unit both defensively and on the front foot. More importantly, the whole squad need to close games down and shut up shop whilst leading games.
