Pointless trip to Borrowash

After 2 encouraging results the Miners travelled to Borrowash to take on an improving Prims side only to come away with nothing. Despite a bright start where Jazz Westcarr and Ben Middleton looked decidedly sharp, Gedling tired and Prims gained the win. The early chances fell to the home side and a fine run and cross from James Rushby followed by a header from Ross Coxon was well saved by Lance Walker. At the other end Westcarr broke clear of his marker to test Hankey. Again Walker was called upon to keep his goal intact with a super stop from Chris Briggs.

On 27 the visitors could have gone ahead. Fine work by Westcarr down the left provided a snap chance for Sam Sims which was smartly turned round by Hankey.

It was the hosts who took the lead in the 34th minute. Somehow Briggs managed to squeeze across cum shot from an acute angle which sailed over Walker.

Again Middleton and Westcarr combined well to set up the latter, but once again Hankey proved equal to the task. Luke Stanley also went close and a scoreline of 0-1 was a tad unfair on the Miners who were more than a match fro Prims without really attempting much in the way of clear cut chances. The approach play was OK and, at the back, skipper Bradley and his defensive partner Giz Brett were coping well with the Prims marauding forwards.

The second half was an altogether different proposition. In any level of football, giving the ball away constantly is a recipe for disaster. The ball was coming back time and again after misplaced pass after misplaced pass from the visitors.

The hosts midfield and forwards, inspired by the clever runs of substitute James Slack, were cutting through Gedling at will and Walker had to rescue his team on more than one occasion.

Westcarr produced a piece of magic on 56 as he turned and fired a volley which Hankey clawed away, but it was no surprise that the lead was doubled six minutes from time. Sam Collins latched onto a through ball from Briggs and lashed the ball past Walker to claim all three points.

Middleton had a chance just before the end as his shot rolled agonisingly pass the post, but in all fairness, Prims were well on top for most of the second period.
