“Hart” breaker for the Miners

GEDLING MINERS....0
STAPENHILL FC……6 (Hart 2, 7, 33, 38, 53 Campbell 20)

League newcomers and unbeaten Stapenhill arrived at Plains Road and, for the first 40 minutes, gave a master class in clinical football. The Miners were blown away by some world class finishing by the league’s top goal scorer Stephen Hart.

The Gaffer gave debuts to Joe Hopper and Jevon Seaton due to injuries and unavailability and the two debutants looked sharp and alive all match.

The home goal remained intact for only two minutes. Tom Ellerton raced down the right and delivered an inviting cross into the box. Despite a valiant effort from Tom Watson to keep the ball away from danger, Hart just got there first to poke home. Home striker Seaton tried his luck from distance but it was Hart again who unlocked the Miners defensive door to score just inside the near post with a fine shot after outpacing two trailing defenders.

Heads didn’t drop in the home side and again Seaton set up Hopper with some fine approach play. The visitors, however, increased their lead in the 20th minute and again Hart was at the centre of it all. His deep cross was met at the far post by Lew Campbell who headed home with Dunn well beaten.

Stapenhill looked likely to score every time they bombed forward, and again good approach work by Jordan Stevens and Campbell led to the 4th goal scored again by Hart who rounded Dunn to tap home his hat trick goal.

Hopper was denied a decent penalty appeal on 33 when he was sent tumbling by a defender and 2 minutes later Gedlin ‘keeper Dunn had to be at his best to keep out another effort from the livewire Hart.

There seemed to be no respite for the Miners back line and in the 38th minute, Hart struck again outwitting Dunn and the retreating Watson to fire home for his side’s fifth. The contest was over at the break with the Derbyshire side 5 goals to the good, but the second period bought a marked improvement from the beleaguered home side. A reshuffle saw Steven Brett come into the back four to release Courtney Bartley into midfield to support another debutant sub Greg Hewes.

The link up play improved 100% and questions were being asked for the first time of a Stapenhill defence as Seaton and Hopper, supported by Hewes and Bartley began to play some fine football.

Joy was shortlived however, when in the 53rd minute Hart struck again, Ellerton fed Campbell who found his strike partner Hart who netted easily for his 22nd of the campaign – a fine return.

The rest of the half was played out at a pedestrian pace with the away side looking comfortable as they cruised to the 3 points.

Many positives for Gedling as all three substitutes made their marks on the game and staked a claim for regular slots. A very encouraging second half display despite the scoreline.
