Gedling MWFC……..............2 (Tony Law 83, Wells 84)
Ellistown and Ibstock FC….0 (Chitiza 17, Rowell 66)
Two late goals earned the Miners a well-deserved point against a lively Ellistown outfit who had taken a 2 goal lead after 66 minutes and who looked to have taken maximum points from an absorbing contest.
Gedling suffered an early blow losing skipper Tom Watson with a knee injury. George Bradley slotting into the heart of the defence after a few games out with his own injury.
The visitors looked dangerous early doors and Rob Lea went close after good build up play from the lively Tendai Chitiza, his shot just whizzing by. The lead came in the 17th minute. An Adam Joynson free kick was floated to the back stick and the ball was headed back across the six yard box by Tom Rowell where Chitiza headed home with Danby beaten.
The hosts responded well and a Brad Wells snap shot tested Sam Taylor’s reflexes. A close game but at the break the visitors just about deserved their slender hold on the game.
Things got brighter for the home side at the start of the second half and Tony Law header was somehow scooped off the line by defender Connor Bartle with his keeper stranded. The Miners pushed on looking for the leveller and Wells again and Luke Stanley had fair efforts and a Brett header sailed over the bar.
The sucker punch came midway through the half. There seemed no danger as sub Pat Rowell picked up the ball some 20 yards out but his lob cum shot sailed over Danby for his sides second.
It looked an uphill battle now for the Miners but their persistence was rewarded with 7 to go. Sabann Allen had only been on the pitch for a matter of seconds when he took a free kick out on the left. The ball was only half cleared by a hesitant defence and found Stanley on the edge of the box and his thunderous shot bounced down off the bar and over the line. An eager Tony Law was on hand to make sure but the goal has been credited to Stanley.
Barely a minute elapsed before the equaliser. A delicious Stanley corner was met firmly at the far post by a jubilant Wells who headed home past Taylor.
It was just rewards for a Miners side that never gave up on the game. In the end a fair result for both sides.
Gedling Man of Match
