Miners just do enough for the three points

Gedling MWFC.....2 (Seaton 25, Tony Law 28)
Meadows..............1 (Meehan 77)

The game started off well enough, and the Miners could and should have been two goals ahead within the first 10 minutes. First Tony Law and then Courtney Bartley failed to convert decent chances, but the home team finally found the net after 25 minutes.

Ricky Law, playing in an unaccustomed left-back role, took a quick throw in on out on the left flank to find Sam Hawkins and the latter's pinpoint inviting cross into the box found the forehead of Jevin Seaton who managed to get the faintest of touches to glance a header past Meadows' keeper Kurtis Hodgkinson.

The lead was increased 3 minutes later, Tony Law had a far post tap in from close range after fine work by Seaton and Bartley wide on the right. Bartley pinged the ball to the far stick and the striker made no mistake, his calm finish doubling the home teams lead. H-T 2 goals to the good at the break and it could have been more such was the hosts dominance.

In the second period Gedling appeared to go to three at the back, with six in midfield and Jack Hopper up top on his own and that allowed Greenwood the chance to apply pressure, aided by some astute substitutions. Meadows certainly looked a far better side in the second half and came right back into the game

Their good work was rewarded with a fine goal on 77 through substitute Alex Meehan, a neat left foot drive from 15 yards that flew past Max Danby and into the top corner of the net.

With Gedling offering very little venom in attack, the visitors might have left Plains Road with at least a point, but failing to turn the screw when they had the upper hand cost them dearly.

The proverbial “game of 2 halves” but 3 points all the same.
