A lack of a clinical edge left Gedling on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat against last seasons FA Vase semi finalists.

St Andrews FC……..2 (Hickey 21, Hodgkinson 96)
Gedling Miners……..0

Two games for the Miners within 4 days were about as different as chalk and cheese. Following the fine midweek win over Holwell Sports, despite playing the majority of the game with 10 men, the Miners failed to raise their game, contributing very little to this match. Disraeli Street is always a tough place to visit and so it proved as the Saints swept aside to challenge and strolled to victory.

The game started brightly enough with both sides earning decent chances, although the better efforts were coming from the Saints as Sub Ben Stephens and Brady Hickey proving tricky. Tommy Macdonald went on a fine run to put in Tony Law but Shane Anicliffe cleared with ease.

Just after the 20 minute mark the home side took the lead. A through ball was not dealt with convincingly enough and Hickey was on hand to slot home the opener. A few half chances came and went for the visitors but Anicliffe caught everything thrown his way . 1-0 at the break and despite a fair amount of possession Gedling couldn’t fine that vital breakthrough or slice of luck in front of goal.

The Saints smelt blood and went all out to increase their lead and Max Danby had to produce a fine save to deny skipper Dan Henfrey. For their part the Miners rarely ventured into the home box, but Courtney Bartley was unlucky to see his goal bound shot cleared off the line by Mitch Warner. Time and again long Gedling balls lumped up and forward produced no end results with Anicliffe enjoying his ball catching afternoon. Three away substitutions improved things and at last the forward play fizzed things up a touch with more forays into the Saints danger zone with Jack Hopper and Reece Campbell trying their hardest to pressurise the Saints back line but to no avail.

Deep into injury time and the sucker punch. With so many Yellow and Blue shirts committed forward, Ryan Hodgkinson wrapped things up with a simple goal to record the Saints win
