Gilwern FC started the new season with an impressive 12-1 win away to Pontypool Town on Saturday.

Gilwern started the game by stamping their authority on the game early and took the lead within 5 minutes with Kieran Shevlin getting the first of his 4 goals. With Gilwern rampant "Spud" Randall finished off a splendid through ball from Dan Gandera to score his first. Gilwern continued to dominate the first half with goals from Adam Carrington and Ben Bergoyne. Pontypool did get a goal, scored by Michael Morrison this resulted from very sloppy defensive errors which Coach Mazza was not amused with.

The second half saw Gilwern maintain the pressure, and added another 4 goals to their tally, an own goal by the Pontypool defense completed the scoring which added to Pontypools dismay. Gilwern defenders, Captain Webby, Luke Mears Joey and Blair were solid as was the midfield with Dan Gandera controlling the game. Langley was a rock holding the centre together. An injury to Luke resulted in Dan Hook taking the field in goal, returning after a lay off with injury, swapping places with Craig Walters who stiffened up the midfield. It was a stunning display by Gilwern who entertain Usk Town at home next Saturday.

Goal scorers: Adam Carrington 4, Kieran Shevlin 4, Michael Randall 2,
Ben Bergoyne 1, 1 Own goal.
Man of the Match was Richard Langley.
