Glan Conwy could easily have taken all 3 points after a superb performance at Glantraeth

Saturday 23rd November

Glntraeth 2 Glan Conwy 2

Glan Conwy turned in a superb performance at fifth place Glantraeth and were disappointed not to take all 3 points as they totally dominated large parts of the game. Glantraeth started well enough with Glan keeper Christian Wright making a point blank save from Mark Jones on four minutes before taking the lead on 29 minutes as Steve Jones drove home a low shot from the edge of the area. At the other end Mez knight and matt Cassidy had both gone close for the visitors and Sam Sinkinson shot from 25 yards forced the home keeper Elliot Smith into making a good save. Approaching the break Glan Conwy began to exert real pressure on the home goal with keeper Elliot Smith making a brilliant save from a Stefan Whitely header and two minutes later rescuing his side as Ryan Stuart blasted a shot on target. Somewhat against the run of play the hosts doubled their lead on the stroke of half time, as left back Gari Owen raced down the field and his cross looped over Wright and found the far top corner.

After conceding such an unfortunate goal many teams would have collapsed but Glan Conwy came fighting back in the second half. Steve Jones had a shot well saved from Wright which seemed to spur on the visitors, who totally dominated the next 30 minutes. Mezz Knight pulled a goal back on 51 minutes when he was sent free by Liam Griffiths, and firing into the top corner from 25 yards. Brad Jones and Cassidy again forced Smith to make a save before Knight got his and Glan’s second on the hour with a superb team goal. Glan stole the ball in their own half and attacked quickly through Sinkinson and Keiron Hilditch who found Cassidy wide on the right. The striker was strong enough to hold off the challenge of Tom Taylor and as keeper Smith raced out he unselfishly squared the ball to Knight who had the easy task of tapping the ball into the empty net. Andy Booker did well to fashion a chance for himself to win the match for Glan but his shot flew inches wide, as did another good effort from Knight. Glantraeths best efforts of the last 15 minutes were mainly from several long balls and long free kicks into the area with Mark Jones and Ryan Davies both heading over with the rest being dealt with easily by Whitely and Chris Beardmore at the heart of the Glan defence. Conor Davies had an excellent opportunity to win it for Glan Conwy in the final minute but his goal bound header was superbly saved by Smith.

Glan Conwy were superb today. The commitment was excellent and the football they played, against a good Glantraeth team, was top drawer. For large periods of the game we totally out classed them and we were very disappointed we didn’t take all three points. Their keeper made three or four quality saves and kept them in the game.
