Glapwell had looked good for extending their recent good form as they took an early lead and appeared in control for the first 20 minutes but in the end the visitors were good value for their win.

Glapwell made two changes from the weekend victory at Phoenix with that match-winner Ash Barber and Luke Fisher unavailable and replaced in the team by Jordan Hall and Brad Dowdall.

The kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes due to the late arrival of the Kinsley Boys team and because of that Glapwell would have been hopeful of a strong start to the game which they got as they started well.

They had the first chance on three minutes but James Whitfield could only fire over the bar from just outside the area but Whitfield made no mistake on six minutes as he fired Glapwell into the lead.

He started the move by playing in Geoffrey Gouveia who saw his low shot parried by visiting keeper Richard Watson with Adam Seward doing well to keep the ball alive and he laid it off to Whitfield who fired low into the corner from 12 yards for his sixth goal in six games.

That was exactly the start that they would have been looking for and for the opening exchanges, Glapwell were in relative control although the visitors did threaten an equaliser when Sam Garforth found space at the back post but he could only head over the bar.

But after playing some good stuff without ever really threatening to extend their lead, Glapwell were pegged back on 22 minutes when a ball from the right was misjudged by Ryan Hopkins which allowed Neil Spruce a tap-in after he had gambled on a potential mistake.

That seemed to change the direction of the game with the visitors looking far more threatening afterwards but Ben Day’s effort on the half hour did more damage to the clubhouse than it did to the scoreline and he went closer a minute later but still dragged his effort wide.

Jack Owen was then played in but he was denied by the onrushing Ryan Hopkins before covering defenders cleared any potential danger when the rebound fell to Neil Spruce.

Then, another good move by the visitors saw Spruce beat the offside trap and travel into the penalty area but he fired past the post as the sides went into a shortened break on level terms.

Inside the opening minute of the second period, Kinsley were desperately unlucky not to go in front when after a good move the ball got laid off to Ben Day whose effort from 20 yards looked a certain goal but it crashed back out off the inside of the post.

Glapwell did battle in the second period without ever really threatening in the final third although they could have gone back in front when Jordan Hall’s cross from the right was met by James Whitfield in the middle who could only head over the bar from 12 yards.

Kinsley always threatened, though, as an attacking force and they had another chance just before the hour when Jack Owen got in behind down the left and he pulled the ball back to Sam Garforth who should have done better as he blazed a shot high over the bar from 15 yards.

But with 20 minutes remaining, the visitors got the goal they had been threatening as Neil Spruce just beat the offside trap and after going round Ryan Hopkins he kept his composure to beat a defender before finishing into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

On the balance of play in the second half, Kinsley deserved to be in front at that stage and Glapwell needed an improvement of sorts in the final stages to get something from it.

Unfortunately, despite a couple of half chances that never really came with Jordan Hall firing well over the bar from the edge of the area after James Whitfield had done well from Ryan Hopkins’ long kick up field.

Then with six minutes left, Glapwell won a free-kick in a dangerous position but Whitfield dragged it wide of the near post as the visitors held on for a deserved victory.

Glapwell had played some good stuff at times, especially in the first 20 minutes, but will be slightly disappointed with their second half performance as they fell to their first defeat in four league games.

They remain 12th with two league games remaining, the first of which takes place this Saturday when Easington United make the trip to Hall Corner, kick-off 3pm.
