Glossop North End and Abbey Hey played out a great game in honour of John Harvey which
saw 4 goals and a red card.
Glossop started the game the brighter of the two sides and within 3 minutes the Abbey
keeper came out of his box and took out a Glossop player, however he got away with it
despite protests from fans and players. A minute later and he took out another Glossop
player resulting in a penalty which was cooly dispatched.
Minutes later Abbey Hey went up the pitch to try and equalise but it was a tame shot at the
Glossop keeper, the keeper then launches a ball up field and the Abbey Hey keeper comes
rushing off his line again and nearly gets lobbed.
In the 23rd minute Glossop then doubled their lead with a corner kick at the third time of
asking as it caused some mayhem in the Abbey box but a strong header at the back post
saw it eventually go over and in.
Some Abbey Hey counter attacks saw them with another few opportunities to cause panic
but it was dealt with well, however a corner for Abbey resulted in a Glossop counter in the
29th minute and they nearly went up and scored a goal. Shortly before half time however
Glossop did get their well deserved third after another Glossop corner caused mayhem and
eventually got stabbed home for the all killer third goal.
After the reset Glossop nearly added to their tally after a shot in the 49th minute went just
wide from the edge of the box. Minutes after though and some poor defending from Glossop
allowed a cross to go all the way through and an Abbey Hey player was there to dispatch
and score what would be a consolation.
Once Abbey Hey scored the goal there wasn't much else to the match bar some half
chances and a booking for one Abbey Hey player and a sending off for another for calling
the referees assistant a cheat and booting the ball at the fans. And once the sending off
happened it was game management from Glossop with some chances in the final 20
minutes of the game.
