Two sides towards the rear of the league table met this Saturday as Glossop travelled west to face Skelmersdale United.
Glossop started well and some early pressure was rewarded after just five minutes.
Pete Boyle was tripped as he looked to break into the box and Glossop had a free kick just outside the penalty area. Captain Jack Tuohy stepped up and found the top left corner with a superb finish.
Three minutes later and Glossop nearly doubled their lead. Tuohy delivered a corner from the right, which found Moussa Samassa, the defender powered a header towards goal which was cleared off the line whilst the follow up shot was blocked.
The home side struggled to create but did have a half chance, which was wasted by Joel Douglas, who could only head wide from Sean Yeldrem’s cross
Glossop displayed some neat attacking play involving Tuohy, Marie and Boyle. Tuohy managed to turn away from a defender before finding Boyle who had two shots blocked by a packed Skelmersdale defence.
It wasn’t to matter though as just two minutes later, Glossop doubled their lead. Substitute Latham, headed the ball on for Marie who drove down the right hand side, his shot was saved well by Ryan Kirkman however the ball fell to Boyle, who managed to stroke the ball into the net.
The home side had a chance five minutes before the break, Douglas was played through on goal, and as he was about to shoot, Samassa made a crucial last ditch block to diver the ball behind for a corner.
After the restart, Glossop had a glorious chance to make it three. Glossop broke forward in numbers, Latham had a shot saved, Marie couldn’t get a shot away from the follow up so found Boyle who’s shot was blocked at close range.
Skelmersdale began to enjoy some good spells of possession but didn’t create much of note.
With 20 minutes to go, Glossop put the game to bed through Jack O’Leary. A corner from the left found the full back, who headed past a helpless Kirkman. The visitors lead comfortably 3-0.
Glossop saw the rest of the game out comfortably, taking the three points home, with the final score, Skelmersdale 0-3 Glossop North End.
