Glossop with all the possession but just couldn’t find the killer blow

GNE hosted Newcastle town following Saturday’s very good second half performance against Cleethorpes Town. As a result of that performance manager Pete Band named an unchanged team.

Newcastle came into the game having conceded no goals in their opening two games but only scoring one. It was clear from the off why, as they sat deep and let The Hillmen attack them. Glossop created a few early half chances but nothing major.

The best chance of the game came on the half hour mark, as the new signing from Norwich City, Arash Ahmadi, looped a great ball to the back stick where Burey was waiting. The header went just wide of the post and out for a goal kick.

Just before half time GNE won a corner, the ball was driven in low. The ball went through everyone until it came to Will Hartshorne who fired straight at the Newcastle keeper.

At half time The Blues went in the happier of the two teams, having the most possession and creating the most chances. They were unlucky to not be winning.

With the last kick of the game Ethan Vale, Newcastle’s Centre-back, struck a looping shot from the left hand corner of the box. It looked to be going into the top right-hand corner but a flying Dale Latham made a wonderful save. He wasn’t called into the action much but when he was he did very well.

In the end GNE couldn’t break the dead lock but there were a lot of positives to take from the game, such as, the balls put into the box from both wings were delightful but there was just no one on the end to convert. The Blues kept up the pressure for the full ninety minutes and kept the ball out of Newcastle half very well. The only thing lacking was the end product.

The next game for The Hillmen is on Saturday when we host Belper Town at The Amdec Forklift Stadium, I hope to see as many of you there as possible to support the boys. Tickets available online via @glossopnorthend on twitter and Facebook or on the Glossop north end website.
