Can the Warriors calm the Storm?

After a week’s break, the Gloucestershire Warriors return to league action as they entertain Leicester Storm at Oxstalls (kick off 2.30pm).

"We definitely owe them one after the nail-biting loss at their place"
- Richard Jones, Warriors' Head Coach

The Storm come to Gloucestershire hoping to repeat their win over the Warriors in April. That game went down to the very last play and it would be no surprise if this Saturday’s match is just as close.

As if to emphasise the point, the last time the Storm visited the Warriors, they went away with the points after a 38-34 win. That was back in 2012 and the sides have clearly remained well matched.

Since beating the Warriors, the Storm have lost three games in a row so they will be itching to get back to winning ways. For their part, the Warriors will be hoping for a win to build on their victory over Oxford Cavaliers last time out.

“I will be looking forward to a big game against Leicester as we definitely owe them one after the nail-biting loss at their place,” said Warriors coach Richard Jones in anticipation of the clash.

“But it's on our patch this time and I will be expecting a big reaction off the lads,” he added.

The Warriors’ timely first away win of the season was a 40-point trouncing of Oxford Cavaliers and Jones was quick to end any complacency by saying: “I have already warned them it will be a lot more testing against Leicester”.

Jones’ men currently sit exactly in mid-table but all the sides below them, including Leicester, have games in hand. The division is so tight that the Warriors are just two points off second spot but also two from second bottom.

For the Storm, a win could propel them to the fringe of the play-off places, which suits their ambition as the club has just moved to brand new facilities at Brooksby Melton College, their 32-26 win over the Warriors in April being the opening encounter at the venue.

The Warriors are also looking at the play-offs and a win would also see them moving upwards so there’s plenty to play for - for both sides.
