Welsh side Pontyclun Panthers came away with two good wins from an entertaining festival at St Peters

UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE ALL GOLDS U14 24 BRISTOL SONICS U14 16

IT WAS early in the match when James Prince released Lewis Locke for the opening All Golds score of the match from 30 metres.

When Liam Hazelden demolished the home side's defence to take an 8-0 lead it looked like it was going to be plain sailing for the All Golds.

However, the Sonics had other ideas and soon responded with two close-range tries of their own.

One of these was converted and with moments to go until half-time it was odds-on that Bristol would lead at the break.

But this was before Findlay Young pulled off a stunning interception on the Sonics' 40-metre line.

He tacked on the extras and the All Golds took a 14-10 advantage into the second period.

Soon after the restart a flowing handling movement between Dario Lanciano, Findlay Young and Liam Hazelden resulted in the latter touching down to score and complete his brace.

With Patrick Stuckey impressing in both attack and defence and Luke Forsythe denied a score after just being held up over the line, it was against the run of play when Bristol too benefited from an interception.

With the resultant goal, the match was evenly poised at 18-16 to the All Golds going into the closing stages.

The key score went to the All Golds when Dean Cooper powered over from 20 metres.

Prince goaled and the visitors had secured a 24-16 triumph in an entertaining match.

A BIG and skilful Welsh side started the match playing high speed, aggressive rugby league and established a 10-0 lead.

However, a young All Golds side was not to be overawed and Alex Cox scored the solo try of the day.

He chipped the ball over the defence, kicked it forward again before regathering it and touching down from 30 metres.

Findlay Young converted and the All Golds restricted the Panthers to one try in the second half and spent most of the period camped in the Welsh red zone.

Despite repeated assaults on the tryline spearheaded by Dario Lanciano, Luke Forsythe, Dean Cooper, Joe Badhams and Jon Hogg, the Panthers defence held firm.

In the final match, the Bristol Sonics lost 36-6 to Pontyclun Panthers.
